While seemingly complicated at first, this tool is very helpful for both players and DMs alike to run online games.
First go to this site and download openrpg by following the steps as well as the order downloaded from top to bottom. I.e. Install paython, then the extension, then openrpg.
www.openrpg.com/index.php?page=install
The website doesn't tell you to install the python stuff, but you need to run both of them before running the above link. Install them in the order downloaded.
After installing the various programs, you are ready to run openrpg located in your startbar, or go under my computer and run it from there (but it should be in your startbar).
Start - All Programs - Open RPG 1.6.2 - Start Open RPG 1.6.2
Make sure to read the manual, it should answer pretty much all your questions:
openrpg.wrathof.com/faq/OpenRPG_User_Guide
If you're like some... who don't like to read manuals, or just need to get on quickly...
Now you will notice a bunch of windows, mainly, there's a chat bar in the bottom right of the screen to type in commands. The main thing to do though, to join a game is press ctrl + B, or select Game server from the top, then select, Browse Servers.
Double click on any of the servers listed (they're all pretty much open servers though I prefer openrpg vaev 1), you will then join the server, and from the same browse menu, you can join a specific room located to the right of the server you just picked from the left.
You can also create a room within that server at the bottom right, remember to pick a password, etc, to give admin rights. Else any person can take over.
For DMs
I went through the trouble of downloading and zipping every monsters for the 3rd edition from the website. Here they are from my geocities site at:
geocities.com/waper9/allmonsters.zip
Simply download it, then unzip to openrpg162/myfiles.
You can then do Insert file for whatever monster you would like to use.
For all
Download minatures, make sure you hit save target as, rather than just clicking.
openrpg.wrathof.com/Minis.xml
Final Notes
There's a lot more information and downloads available, you can view the manual at:
openrpg.wrathof.com/faq
Also, the openrpg website has more downloads as well.
www.openrpg.com/
Not to mention, you can now make minatures for yourself if need be, maps, etc. I'm still trying to find an easy map editor, but that'll come in time.
And here's a detailed site into making your own random adventures as well as tools for making maps, converting jpgs to maps, etc.
