Ok everyone, I just started using Open RPG and frankly it was quite confusing. I just happened to find a few tricks that might be useful to other new users and ease the learning curve. Open RPG is a great tool, and if used properly can cut down a lot of micro management time. Please feel free to add to this list. So without further ado, let us begin.
1) Auto Complete Sucks. I want it dead NOW.
Yes, even I hate it. Hit CTRL+S, select chat, and set SuppressChatAutoComplete to 1. That’s it. In this menu you can also change the font size and other chat options.
2) Old text disappears, and I can’t scroll over to it.
Well you can increase the number of lines that stay in the Chat display by hitting Ctrl+S, selecting chat, and setting the BufferSize to something greater than 100. Be warned however, that increasing the buffer size will cause Open RPG to use more ram, making your computer unstable/slow and ultimately crashing it. Unless you simply just have to see the more of the text, leave it at 100.
Auspician: You could also note that the simple shortcut for this is /lines X, which states your total amount of lines simply.
3) How do I specify actions in chat ?
To specify what your char does, type /me (characters action) for example, “/me picks up the bow” will give me ** Charname picks up the bow**
4) How do I whisper ?
Two ways to do it, you can double click the name of the person you want to whisper on left box. Or you can use /w “players id”= message here.
5) How to bind commands and test to the F1 to F12 keys.
Now we all roll initiative, and it is a value that rarely changes. An easy way to do it is to use the command “charname [1d20+x] init” With x being your initiative modifier. Now, what you can do is type “/set F1=charname [1d20+x]” init and hit enter. Now every time you press F1, a d20 will be rolled and your initiative modifier will be added to it. Please note the final word init is used to activate a plugin to openRPG that your DM may utilize, so it is a good idea to always use this format even though it isn't absolutely necessary.
Also for those using the newer 2.1 Initiative tool.
Auspician : One of the things about this tool in regards to rolling initiative is that you have to put "init" without the quotes after the die roll. "Init" or "initiative" or "Initiative" won't work, it has to the the four lowercase letters "init" without the quotes.
You can bind other actions for example, by typing /set F2=/me hates gnome paladins. Everytime you press F2, you will get the action text **(charname) hates gnome paladins.**
6) Where are the miniatures?
Took me a while to figure this one. There are no miniatures with Open RPG. You have to add them yourself. You can download the miniature file I use from here www.rapidupload.com/download.php?file=dl&filepath=1222 . Save it (your install path)\OpenRPG\myfiles . Open OpenRpg, right click on the white window to the left with your game tree, and select Insert File. Browse and select the file you downloaded. You should now have another category in the tree called Mini’s. Browse through it, select the miniature time you want, and double click it. Chose from the pop up and click add. That’s it.
7) How do I add my character to Open Rpg.
I still haven’t found an xml exporter that formats char sheets into Open Rpg, so you will have to manually enter the stats one by one. On the positive side, it’s pretty easy and saves a lot of time. Open the features node, labled OpenRPG 1.6.2 go to Templates-Tools- double click 3rd Edition Character Tool.
You will have an addition to the Game tree called DnD 3E Character, browse through it, and add you stats to it. Once you are done, you can just right click the weapon to roll an attack and damage roll, or just right click the will saves entry to roll a will save. As you can see, it saves you the hassle of looking up each modifier.
Make sure to save the Character by right clicking it and selecting save node. To restore the Character to an older backup, just right click the Game Tree box, select insert file, browse to the back up and select it.
(Thanks to Auspician for pointing out a few errors and commands.)
